Private Austin Bennett

While engaged with the enemy, Private Austin Bennett, of Port Rowan was wounded and suffered from the effects of poison gas in October 1917 during the battle of Passchendaele. Austin was returned home in January 1918, and was sent to the Brant House Convalescent Hospital in Hamilton. After four years of suffering, Austin died on January 13, 1921. He is buried in the Simcoe Oakwood Cemetery.
